The first module I fully completed with my class (4C) was the “PUBLIC SPEAKING” Module, which was taught by Mr.Wall. During our first couple of classes we were introduced to this new module/subject by watching many inspirational speeches. Later on into the module we were taught how to deliver a speech correctly - with confidence, good body language and not to say the speech itself too quickly.
Towards the end of the module we had to make a speech about something we enjoyed or we were interested in (we were going to be examined on it). I chose to do my speech about global warming and why we needed to stop it. Im very interested in the environment and thats why I did this specific speech. We were also told to add certain english techniques (for example: Alliteration, Simile, Metaphor, Hyperbole and Onomatopoeia) to our speeches.
Towards the last week or two of this module, our speeches were examined by Irene Burke (The adjudicator). We prepared our speeches on flashcards and also created a powerpoint based on our speeches. We added photos and facts to these powerpoints (percentages or keywords). When I was examined on, I was quite nervous but I got on with it and I did quite well. Irene questioned me about my speech after i presented it which also went quite well.
In conclusion I did enjoy this module because it pushed me out of my comfort zone (which I’m not used to doing) and I was properly taught how to speak publicly to a crowd.
